Iqo continues to show encouraging progress in her daily life at Forest School. Based on observations of her nesting behaviour, she consistently builds a new nest each time she rests. This consistency reflects Iqo’s increasingly mature ability to construct nests. Thus, an essential skill for wild orangutans to survive in their natural habitat.
In her daily activities, Iqo also demonstrates a wide range of locomotion skills. Around 27% of her time is spent moving through the forest using various techniques, including climbing up and down trees, moving laterally in an irregular manner between branches (clambering), and swaying tree trunks to cross from one tree to another (tree sway). This variety of movement highlights Iqo’s agility and growing confidence while navigating the forest canopy.
Socially, Iqo is showing an interesting new dynamic within the large group. Previously known for being inseparable from Rumba, Iqo has recently begun to expand her social circle. She is now more frequently seen spending time with Segi. The two appear to have strong chemistry, as they both enjoy exploring and actively playing high in the trees. Nevertheless, old bonds are not easily broken. From time to time, Iqo still comes down to the ground to play with Rumba, maintaining a balance between long-standing friendships and new experiences.
Known as an intelligent and cooperative orangutan, Iqo rarely causes difficulties for her surrogate mothers. However, as her cleverness grows, it has also revealed a mischievous side that brings smiles. Taking advantage of moments when surrogate mothers are distracted, Iqo often tries to secretly take fruit or milk containers from the carrying basket. These attempts are not always successful, as the surrogate mothers patiently teach Iqo discipline and encourage her to be more independent in finding natural food sources, such as forest fruits or young leaves around the large group area.
Despite spending her days actively exploring and playing with her new companions, departure and return times remain special moments for Iqo and Rumba. The two are almost always seen walking side by side when heading to or leaving the forest school area. The sight of Rumba walking while hugging Iqo from behind is especially heartwarming.
