What is Exercise Physiology?

Exercise Physiology is the study of how exercise effects the human body. The Boronia Exercise Physiology team introduces different types of exercise at different intensities to help the body to manage chronic health conditions.

Our Boronia Exercise Physiologists are university trained and have completed a minimum of 4 years. By completing the Masters Degree of Clinical Exercise Physiology, they are accredited and able to bill through Medicare, DVA, Private Health and other funding schemes.

The accreditation process is very strict and Accredited Exercise Physiologists or AEPs must have ongoing education and development to ensure they treat at the highest clinical standard. Treatment is based on the most recent scientific research with strong documented evidence.

Exercise Physiologists are much more than just a personal trainer. They have an in depth knowledge of how the body works and are trained to implement safe exercise programs for an individual with complex health conditions.

What to expect in an exercise physiology consultation?

The initial assessment is a ‘get to know you’ session. Your AEP will go through your current health and fitness, exercise and injury history and discuss any goals that you would like to achieve.

Your AEP will take you through some gentle tests to gauge your level so your workout is challenging but enjoyable to complete. They will also identify areas to work on such as muscle imbalances or poor activation.

In following sessions, the AEP will re-assess your needs and progress your exercises in a way that will maintain motivation and results. As your goals change so will your program so it is a highly personalised and tailored way to exercise.
