Osteopaths


Dr Paul Hermann – Osteopath & Personal Trainer

Dr Paul HerrmannAs well as being an experienced Osteopath, Paul is one of Australia’s leading experts in Swiss Ball Training and Exercise Rehabilitation. He has been in the Health and Fitness industry for over 16 years working as a Gym Instructor, Personal Trainer and Coordinator of a successful exercise rehabilitation program.
Paul completed his Masters in Osteopathy studying the Effectiveness of Swiss Ball Training on Lower Back Stability, and is the author of the popular book, ‘Effective Swiss Ball Training’. He also regularly writes articles for Personal Trainer and Network Fitness Magazines.

Whilst still working as a Personal Trainer and Osteopath, Paul is also the owner and director of Stay Tuned Sports Medicine. He has several elite level athletes amongst his patients and has travelled internationally to look after a variety of elite athletes and teams. He also continues to fulfil his own sporting dreams being part of the Victorian Basketball League championship winning team in 2004, the Kilsyth Cobras.

Paul has been an exercise adviser to the International Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia and lectures Exercise Rehabilitation, in the Osteopathic Medicine Department of RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia and has given guest lectures at other Melbourne universities. He is a regular presenter in Australia at various conferences, and regularly conducts workshops and courses both nationally and internationally.


Dr Gary Israelsohn – Osteopath

Dr Gary IsraelsohnHaving been involved in sport his entire life; Gary knew that his professional career would carry him into the health industry. An introduction to the world of Osteopathy was both a chance encounter as well as a life changing one.

Gary joined the Stay Tuned team at the end of 2003, after graduating from RMIT University. Since working as an Osteopath he has gained a keen interest in managing musculoskeletal conditions including headaches, shoulder injuries, neck and lower back dysfunctions as well as postural problems. However, dealing with sporting based injuries is Gary’s passion. He has spent time working with elite athletes including the 2003 New Zealand AllBlack World Cup Rugby side as well as the International Irish AFL team. Gary has also developed very proficient skills in both writing and coordinating gym based rehabilitation programs for both injured athletes and workers.

When you can’t find Gary in the Stay Tuned Sports Medicine suites or in the gym he enjoys snowboarding, football as well as the highly competitive world of D grade mixed net ball on a Sunday night. Gary has also travelled extensively taking him to America twice, Canada, Mexico, the Middle East, South Africa and Asia.


Dr Kellie Wapshott – Osteopath

Dr Kelly WapshottKellie graduated as an Osteopath from RMIT in 2005 and relocated to Canberra in 2006 to take up an athletics scholarship with the AIS as well as work as an Osteopath. She has competed internationally, allowing her to also see a little bit of the world.

Through her time as an athlete and working as an osteopath Kellie has developed a special interest in treating sports injuries. She is also happy to treat any musculoskeletal system complaints including; neck and lower back pain as well as headaches.


Dr Kate Wines – Osteopath & Personal Trainer

Dr Kate WinesDr Kate Wines is a highly motivated Osteopath and Personal Trainer with a great deal of personal experience in sport and exercise rehabilitation. She holds certificates III and IV in Fitness and Personal Training as well as her Masters in Health Science (Osteo) having studied, ‘The cause and occupational risk factors associated with lower back injuries to the Victorian Police Force’.

Dr Wines is a full time Osteopath with us at our Boronia clinic whilst continuing to work as an Injury Management Consultant to the Police Force.

Having a background in workplace injuries Dr Wines adds another element to our already highly successful Occupation Restoration Program looking after the injuries of Victorian workers. Dr Wines also understands the needs of all levels of athletes and those of us trying to get fit, having played ‘A’ grade softball for over 10 years, working with the Tasmanian Cricket Team and Victorian Softball Team, and her work as a personal trainer. She is well placed to help you recover quickly from your injury or to assist you in becoming your personal best. You may see Kate running the streets of Melbourne as she trains for her first Melbourne Marathon this year.


Dr Lauren Jenkins – Osteopath & Pilates Instructor

Dr Lauren JenkinsLauren began her Stay Tuned life as a locum filling in for maternity leave and has since joined the team on a permanent basis in both Elwood and Boronia. Lauren has traveled extensively and has worked in Ireland as an Osteopath since graduation in 2007.

She specialises in paediatric cases but enjoys treating people of all ages, with all kinds of ailments having experience with babies, the elderly, disabled patients including the conditions cerebral palsy and autism, marathon runners and gaelic footballers.

Lauren is also a qualified fitness instructor with experience teaching the Les Mills Body Pump and Body Jam.


Physiotherapists


Claire Oaten – Physiotherapist/Hydrotherapist

B.Physio, M.A.P.A

Claire OatenClaire has a Bachelor of Physiotherapy as well as a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Biology. She has worked in the local area as a physiotherapist for the past six years including at the major local hospitals; The Angliss Hospital & Maroondah Hospital and in private practice.

As a result, Claire’s experience covers many aspects of Physiotherapy including women’s health, cardiothoracics, orthopaedics, neurology and emergency. After gaining a broad foundation in public health, Claire settled into private practice.

Specifically Claire’s interest is in the area of Aquatic Physiotherapy/Hydrotherapy and she runs a number of hydrotherapy classes.


Bryan Robertson – Physiotherapist

BPT, Grad. Cert. Kinematics (UBC) Canada

Bryan RobertsonBryan graduated from LaTrobe University in 2007, and has completed further study in Biomechanics and Kinematics. Bryan currently works for the Melbourne Rebels Super Rugby Club, and is Head Physiotherapist for Scotch College in Melbourne. He is also involved with the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA) helping with preparation for the Olympics in Russia 2014, and has experience with NFL and AFL in Australia and North America.

Bryan is a qualified Kinesio™ accredited practitioner, uses Dry Needling and has advanced manual handling skills specific to Sports Physiotherapy, Pilates and Biomechanical bike fits.

In his spare time he enjoys participating in football, surfing and is a qualified CASI level 1 snowboard instructor. Bryan also enjoys competitive Triathlons during the Gatorade Season in Victoria.

Emma Morris – Dietitian (A.P.D) & Sports Dietitian

Emma MorrisEmma Morris is a highly qualified and experience Dietitian and Sports Dietitian. She has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Human Movement as well as a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics.

As well as practicing full time at Stay Tuned Sports Medicine, Emma is also the Dietitian for Williamstown Football Club and regularly presents to a variety of sporting clubs.

Emma will help you get off the dieting merry-go-round and assist you to make changes that will stay with you over your lifetime.


Rathika Kana – Dietitian

Rathika KanaRathika is a highly qualified, accredited practicing dietitian who is very passionate about her work and strives to provide best scientific based approaches to help clients achieve their goals.

She believes an individualised treatment plan is essential to assist clients with making and maintaining lifestyle changes. Rathika’s passion and interest for diabetes management has lead her to undertake a graduate certificate of diabetes education. She also covers a range of areas including weight loss, gastrointestinal disorders, celiac disease/allergies and sports nutrition.


Exercise Physiologist


Marc Rotunno – Exercise Physiologist

Marc RotunnoMarc completed his Bachelor of Exercise Science in 2008 where he found a passion for helping people regain their health. He then finished his Graduate Diploma in Exercise Prescription in 2009 and gained accreditation with ESSA as an Exercise Physiologist in 2011. During his time at university he worked as a fitness specialist in a number of gyms.

Marc has a passion for sports especially for AFL football, has been playing football for over 10 years and is currently playing for the Bunyip Bulldogs. He has had experience in hospitals and private settings and has worked with a vast variety of clients including musculoskeletal injuries, diabetes, heart conditions, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and more. Marc loves helping his clients achieve their goals and believes he can help you to better health and enjoyment of life.

Kerry Hage – Myotherapist

Kerry HageKerry began studying her Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy in 2002 at Victorian College of Health graduating as a Myotherapist in 2004. She is very passionate about her work and strives to provide a caring professional service to all clients. Kerry hopes that through her treatments she will relax and rehabilitate the body whilst invigorating the mind and revitalizing the spirit. Kerry believes it is important to treat the person and not just the condition. She has strong interests in and has had great success treating headaches, neck and back pain, muscular tightness, stress and tension.

With a number of modalities including relaxation massage, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger-point therapy, cupping, myofascial dry needling, thermal therapy and stretching Kerry hopes to educate as well as pamper her clients and help them to live in a body that is strong, healthy and free from pain.


Natalie Miller – Myotherapist

Natalie MillerNatalie has a keen interest in injury prevention, management and maintenance stemming from personal experience as a competitive swimmer, athletics participant and basketball player. She gained her Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy at RMIT in addition to a Diploma in Sports Development and Athlete Support, and has completed a 12 month internship at the Carlton football club.

Using various soft tissue techniques, stretching and corrective exercise, Natalie is able to help you meet your goals and be your best whether you are a weekend warrior or serious athlete. With 6 years experience working at Knox Leisureworks YMCA, Natalie’s is a familiar face at the Boronia clinic and is now pleased to be part of the team at Stay Tuned.


J’aime Barry – Myotherapist

J'aime BarryJ’aime is currently studying Osteopathy at Victoria University, having just completed the Bachelor of Science (Clinical Science) and is now undertaking a Masters in Health Science (Osteopathy). She graduated from the Melbourne Institute of Massage Therapy as a qualified Myotherapist in 2006.

J’aime has worked for the Hawthorn and Carlton AFL clubs and the Northern Bullants VFL club over a period of six years. During this time she has gained experience in managing acute and chronic injuries specifically related to athletes. She has also been working as a Myotherapist 7 years, gaining experience with tri-athletes, runners, weekend warriors, office and vocational problems seen in the general population.

J’aime specialises in therapeutic manual therapy managing tension & stress headaches, sports injuries, muscle soreness, helping to reducing rehabilitation time, pain due to postural compensations, joint movement, and pregnancy.

Laura Ellul – Remedial Massage

Laura EllulLaura is a fourth year Osteopathy student at Victoria University who has completed her Bachelor of Clinical Sciences degree, and is now working on her Masters of Osteopathy. Laura received her Diploma of Remedial Massage in 2011.

Laura has gained valuable experience in sports related injuries due to her work as a Sports Trainer for an amateur football club. Having also competed internationally as a Sports Aerobics athlete and with a background in ballet, Laura has a keen interest in treating and assessing athletes. She also has an interest in treating neck and back pain, headaches, stress, and muscular tension.


Podiatrists


Glen Hughes – Podiatrist

Glen HughesGlen has had 18 years of experience in his own private practice. His special interests within the field are Sports Podiatry, nail surgery and paediatrics. Throughout Glen’s career, he has been actively involved with Health Promotion. He has set up Older Adult walking groups in North Melbourne, established shoe shopping groups to educate people on correctly fitting their shoes and was part of the Falls Prevention Clinics.

Additionally, Glen was involved in sports screenings at Rebel Sport, he set up and orthotic laboratory in Flemington Community Health Centre and also performed school screening programs for prevention of spread of papillomas and early diagnosis of gait problems. More recently, Glen introduced Doppler vascular assessments to his work and also introduced the first 3D Scan to Melbourne for orthotics, replacing the plaster cast moulds.


Audrey Metcalf – Podiatrist

Audrey MetcalfAudrey is a qualified podiatrist and joined Stay Tuned early 2009. She works most commonly at our Boronia clinic and has experience with all aspects of foot care with a special interest in sports podiatry and athletic lower leg and foot injuries. She has extended hours available to cater for you.


Michael O’Connell – Podiatrist

Michael has always been a very active sportsperson. Due to his personal involvement with sport he has developed a string interest in the field of sports related foot pathologies. Michael also has strong interests in the areas of biomechanics, diabetes and paediatric growth and development.

Michael has experience in community health with strong emphasis on diabetic foot care. He has devoted his time to La Trobe University as a Clinical Teaching Associate and conducted in store foot screenings at the Athlete’s Foot.


Psychologist


Dr Lisa Hardman – Clinical Psychologist

Dr Lisa HardmanDr Lisa Hardman is a qualified and registered Clinical Psychologist who completed her Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2000. She also has degrees in Arts and Honours degree in Science (Psychology). Lisa is a member of the Australian Psychological Society’s College of Clinical Psychologists and the Victorian Branch of the Australian Association for Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy.

Lisa specialises in providing Cognitive Behavioural Assessment and Treatment and Brief Solution Focused Interventions for a variety of mental health issues. These include anxiety, depression, stress, serious mental illness, trauma, grief / loss issues, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, chronic health conditions and chronic pain management.

Since graduating, Lisa has worked for Eastern and Southern Public Mental Health services. She spent over 4 years working within a crisis psychiatric team and currently works for a Primary Mental Health Service. Lisa was also employed at a private chronic pain management clinic for several years and was able to develop specialist chronic pain management therapy knowledge and skills over that time.


Chinese Medicine


Dr Karina Spicer – Chinese Medicine

Dr Karina SpicerHaving competed in National Level Netball and a keen interest in all sports and fitness it was inevitable that Karina would work in Health and Well Being.Karina joins the Stay Tuned team after working extensively in the United States of America.

Treating different and complex conditions, she now returns to Australia with a great passion for treating many conditions such as mental Illness, muscle-skeletal conditions, sleeping disorders and infertility. As Traditional Chinese Medicine encompasses the whole body, many patients come in for one condition and find better health in general.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a wholistic treatment that realigns the body by working with Qi (body’s energy, vital force) with the insertion of sterile needles that are as fine as your hair. Acupuncture, encompassed with Chinese Herbs, Tuina (Chinese Massage), Nutritional Therapy and Tai Chi/Qi Gong are all part of a traditional treatment.

Dr Karina has completed an internship in the South of China under guidance of famous professors and understands each patient is individual and we need to ascertain the root cause of the concern.
